The Merton Primary became an Academy on 1st October 2014 with a view to becoming a member of an Umbrella Trust across a group of local primary schools. We are delighted to tell you that this has happened and Syston and Thurmaston Educational Partnership ( STEP) is now fully established.
Ten schools in the Syston and Thurmaston area have joined together to form an innovative and exciting educational partnership which aims to secure an outstanding, broad and balanced learning experience for all children within the group. STEP is one of the first legally binding entities of its kind, and the largest in the East Midlands. STEP, which started as an informal collection of schools sharing information and working collaboratively to secure good educational practice, has been formed in response to the closure of the local authority’s School Improvement Service.
A few years ago, our family of schools faced a very difficult decision. We could carry on as maintained schools with much reduced support from our Local Authority or we could convert to Academy Status and take responsibility for our own destiny. We chose the latter and are confident that our strong vision for the future; the pooling of our skills and commitment to school to school support will enable us all to raise standards, improve access to opportunities and support the well-being of our pupils and their families.
The following schools are members of STEP:
Broomfield Primary School, East Goscote
Church Hill Infant School, Thurmaston
Church Hill C of E Junior School, Thurmaston
Eastfield Primary School, Thurmaston
Gaddesby Primary School
Queniborough C of E Primary School
St Michael and All Angels C of E, Rearsby
The Pochin School, Barkby
The Merton Primary School, Syston
Thrussington C of E Primary School
We enjoy working together to secure the best possible outcomes for children and also now run a teaching school where we undertake training and share learning across a wide number of schools.
